Art Speaks Lecture Series

American Memory in Stone and steel: National Monuments of Tragedy and Triumph

Free

with Chuck Tampio

Calendar Next session starts Nov 14, 2019 at 5 pm

America in Stone and Steel is a multimedia presentation that focuses on monuments and memorials around the world and investigates their current meaning, often in contrast with their original intent.  They are examined both as important works of public art, as well as strong cultural statements.  Behind the scenes stories illuminate such icons as the Statue of Liberty and the Lincoln Memorial and the pyramids of Egypt.

Charles Tampio moved to Tucson after 25 years in Washington, D.C. where he held a variety of jobs in education and environmental nonprofits.  He was President of Earthforce and vice president of the Close Up Foundation and is currently president of Levelor Foundation, a charitable organization.  He is a docent at the Tucson Museum of Art and has given record setting presentations in Tucson and all over the country.   Amoung his other accomplishment, he was the first anchor for C-SPAN.
